How much does it cost?
Joining is free: browse every brief, meet people, message them and build your profile and portfolio, no card needed. When you’re ready to claim, join or start a project, membership is a monthly subscription ($9.99/month, plus any sales tax that applies). Cancel any time. Membership includes your portfolio site. If you only want the portfolio, Portfolio only ($2.99/month) is the cheaper option. See the refund policy.
Who owns what we build?
You do. Buto takes no ownership of anything members build: your ideas, designs, code and products belong to you and your teammates. Each member can show the project and their part in their portfolio. If you want to sell or launch it, agree that as a team. Read how ownership works.
Can I show work I made outside Buto?
Yes. On Member or Portfolio only you can add freelance, job and personal projects with images, PDFs, video or code, plus your résumé. They’re labelled as outside work, so visitors can tell them apart from the team projects your teammates confirm.
Is this a job or an internship?
No. Projects are unpaid collaborations between members. You keep your work and can show it anywhere.
Do I need experience?
No. Briefs come in three sizes, and your matches take your skills and level into account.
How much time does it take?
You choose how many hours a week you have. Projects run from 1 to 12 weeks, and you can be on up to 4 teams at once.
